Downsizing removals in Davidson

Plenty of the houses here still belong to the families who bought them new, back when the estate was raw cut ground. When one of those households finally moves on, it isn't a job you rush: it's four decades coming out of one house, and most of it means something to someone.

How we handle a downsizing move

  • At your pace, not ours. The hourly model means the day runs how you need it to run. If a cupboard takes an extra half hour because every shelf holds a story, that's the job, not a delay.
  • Volume, honestly assessed. Forty years accumulates more than anyone remembers owning. We scope the whole house, garage and under-house included, so the crew and truck that arrive are the right size for what's actually there.
  • Three destinations, sorted as we pack. Most downsizing moves split three ways: coming to the new place, going to family, and going away. We pack and label to that plan so nothing gets carried twice or lost between piles.
  • The pieces that matter most, handled best. The china that only came out at Christmas, the framed photos, the piano nobody's played since the kids left: wrapped properly, carried deliberately. More on fragile care.
  • Family welcome in the loop. Often it's a son or daughter making the arrangements. We're glad to keep whoever's coordinating across every step; just tell us who to call.

The house knows things a stranger doesn't

A split-level that's been lived in for forty years has its own logic: the wardrobe that was assembled inside the room and won't leave whole, the garage beam everyone ducks without thinking, the retaining wall step that grabs a trolley wheel. We ask about all of it before the day, because you know this house better than anyone who will ever move it.

And the drive is still the drive. The same steep descent we plan for families arriving gets planned just as carefully on the way out, with rest points set and the carry sized for a long, careful day rather than a sprint.

What it costs

The same three honest rates as every move we do. A whole-house downsizing move usually wants the 4 movers + 2 trucks crew at $500/hour, because the volume is real even when the new place is small; a lighter final load runs happily on 3 movers + 1 truck at $350/hour. We'll tell you plainly which fits after the scope, and the hours get agreed with you, not sprung on you. How the tiers work.

There's a longer piece on this, written for the households who've been here since the beginning: Downsizing a Davidson original: forty years, one move.
